At EDITION, we set the standard for environmentally conscious hospitality minimizing single-use plastic products including straws, bathroom amenities, mini bar items and room keys, aiming to get other hotels to follow suit and become conscious

The Barcelona EDITION takes responsibility in taking care not only of our hotel but also our community and natural environment. We are constantly striving to reduce our environmental impact through different measures such as minimizing single-use plastic, changing the bed linen every other day, the installation of solar energy panels, reducing energy waste through energy optimization systems, regulating the temperature and lighting through intelligent control systems and offering sustainably-sourced food in our restaurants. Our employees are provided with a stainless steel water bottle and the chance to participate in actions such as clearing beaches from plastic debris organized by the association Barcelona Forum District.

At EDITION we encourage our guests to be aware of and reduce their environmental impact during their stay at our hotels with simple yet meaningful actions such as optimizing the use of lights and taps by turning them off when not in use, recycling on the different bins placed in the rooms, or keeping a peaceful, quiet and positive atmosphere so all guests and locals alike can enjoy their experience. The concierge team is also available for green tips to discover the city like using our Tokyobikes, open air activities or visiting iconic yet less massified local attractions.

Some social projects we have undertaken include our waste management service by people at risk of labor insertion at the Catalan foundation Trinijove, our cooperation in the fundraising and sports project Pedaleja by La Marató de TV3 to obtain funds for scientific research into diseases for which there is currently no cure; our participation in the volunteering initiative by Fundació Èxit guiding and motivating young people in situations of social vulnerability and school dropout prevention; the human trafficking training for our employees conducted by Associació A21, and different donations from the proceeds obtained in special events to LGBTQIA+ organizations such as Ahora Dónde, helping young victims of LGBTQIA+ phobia in their family environments, or the LGBTQIA+ center Observatori Contra l’Homofòbia.

The Barcelona EDITION has proudly been certified by Biosphere for its commitment to a sustainable model and the green actions undertaken. Aligned with the principles, targets and sustainable development goals of the United Nations, the Biosphere methodology was created following the four summits by UNESCO and UNWTO upon the International Year of Sustainable Tourism. This certification label is a recognition for companies of the tourism sector controlled by an external auditing team who guarantees the implementation of sustainable initiatives protecting people, the planet and a sustainable development in the framework of the 2030 Agenda.

Moreover, The Barcelona EDITION has been awarded Silver E3*** by Ecostars, the sustainability certification for hotels based on the analysis of its environmental and social impact per stay and governance policies compliance. As one of the largest sustainability seals, Ecostars is recognized by the World Tourism Organization and the Global Sustainable Tourism Council. The axes of evaluation are energy and water consumption, CO2 footprint, recycling processes, use of sustainably-sourced products, animal cruelty-free food – through Ecofoodies – as well as ethical practices.
